Twenty Questions

Twenty Questions With – Holly

I would like to introduce you to a blogger that I only just discovered myself. Holly is a visually impaired lady in her twenties that blogs about getting on with her life. Over at Life Of A Blind Girl (Holly’s blog) you’ll find beauty posts, lifestyle hacks, travel tales and concert trips.

I am so with you on question 3 Holly, I think freedom, independence and spontaneity are something ‘able’ people take for granted. Just being able to do something without a load of planning and research would be amazing.

As to question 4, it’s surprising what new skills you can gain from having a disability! Including a magnitude of patience!

Your answer to number 17 Holly makes me curious. Is this because it was your best time? Or because you’d do something different?

My Questions/Holly’s Answers

1. What made you decide to write a blog?

I’ve had a passion for writing for many years and wanted to fulfil my passion by starting a blog. I started blogging in the hope to tackle the common misconceptions surrounding sight loss and disability, educate, support and inspire others. I also wanted to share my experiences of living with a disability and to get across the fact that living with a disability isn’t all negative, the positives do often outweigh the bad aspects.

2. What do you want your blog to achieve?

I would like my blog to educate, inspire, inform and motivate both disabled and non-disabled people. I would love my posts to help people in one way or another. I also aim to tackle the common misconceptions surrounding sight loss and disability, so I really do hope that it does that.

3. What is the most difficult thing for you about having a disability?

Not being able to just drive to wherever I want to , whenever I want to. Instead I have to either plan a journey in advance or get someone to take me. I’m an independent person so I’d love to go wherever I want whenever I want.

4. What is the biggest positive about having a disability?

For me, there are many positives about having a disability. One of the biggest positives is the skills that it’s given me. As I am blind, I have learnt skills such as braille (in a few languages), learning how to use a long cane and also learning how to use assistive technology. If I didn’t have a visual impairment then I wouldn’t have a need for these skills.

5. If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life what would it be?

It would most definitely be pizza!

6. An apocalypse is imminent, you have 30 minutes to prepare, what 3 items do you pack?

My iPhone, food and something practical like clothes/shoes.

7. When making tea would you pour the milk or water in first?

I don’t actually like tea (I’m a hot chocolate kinda gal), but if I was making a cup of tea for someone else, I’d pour the water in first.

8. What is your favourite way to relax?

I usually spend any down time by watching something on tv/Youtube, reading a good book or listening to music.

9. If you could interview any human, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

I’d absolutely love to interview Jessie J, she is my inspiration so it would be amazing to interview her to ask about her career, life etc. I just love her attitude towards life.

10. What would be your dream job?

A full-time blogger/Youtuber.

11. You’ve just won 10 million pounds (congratulations!), what 3 things would you do with the money?

1.I’d buy a family home, and help those I love.

2.Travel.

3.Give some money to charity.

12. Where in the world would you most like to visit and why?

I’d love to go back to New York and explore the city even more, I went at the beginning of the year and I’ve wanted to go back ever since.

13. What one thing would you change about yourself?

I’d like to look my age, rather than looking a lot younger haha.

14. If you could play any part in a film, past or future, real or fiction, Who would you be?

I’m not too sure, but at the moment I’d love to play Sophie in the most recent Mama Mia film.

15. If there was a pill that would freeze you at your current age and you could live forever as you are now, would you take it and why?

No, I think it would be extremely difficult and heartbreaking to see those that I love the most pass away and getting older, whilst I was still the same age.

16. If you could trade lives with one person for an entire day who would it be and why?

I’d love to trade lives with Jessie J, I think it would be such an interesting experience knowing what it’s like to be a celebrity for a day. Imagine just going to your own concert and performing on stage to thousands of people, being in the studio or doing whatever she does in her own time. It would also give me the chance to see life from a sighted person’s perspective, even if it was just for a day.

17. If you could time travel where would you go?

I’d love to travel back in time to my three years at university.

18. If you were made queen and allowed to pass one new law, what would it be and why?

Equal access for disabled people in all parts of society.

19. What personal trait has gotten you in the most trouble?

I’ve never really been in that much trouble to be honest but the fact that I will fight for my rights sometimes gets me into a bit of trouble. It can often be hard to do this, especially as a disabled person, but it’s important to fight for your rights and what you deserve.

20. As a child, what did you wish to become when you grew up?

I wanted to be a musician, I loved playing the flute, I also tried to learn drums, clarinet and piano but after a while, I just stuck to the flute.
